Las Vegas’ Child Problems

Las Vegas has a problem with children hanging out in their casinos. The way people see it, gambling is truly a way of life with them. There are slot machines everywhere you look, so why shouldn’t the kids think it is alright to hang out near them? Because it is illegal to play the slot machines if you are under 21. Atlantic City is much stricter about their rules and regulations, they will not allow kids to even walk through most of the gambling areas, and have security guards posted so that they can’t.

In Las Vegas it is not nearly as strict, and kids are everywhere. The law is that they can walk through the casino floor, but they can’t stand there – which is confusing to kids and parents alike. They don’t really understand the difference. Plus, many of their casinos are kid friendly, with games and attractions to keep them entertained, giving Las Vegas a kid-friendly reputation.

The parents are just as much to blame. They go and start playing the slot machines or the gambling tables, and they lose track of what their children are doing. Other patrons are annoyed that what they see as an adult-only area is inundated with children hanging out. The casinos don’t want to alienate the parents, but they can’t have the kids hanging out, for they will eventually end up getting fined by the casino board.
