United Food and Commercial Workers on Strike

The United Food and Commercial Workers Local 401 (UFCW), which represents the employees of the Palace Casino in Edmonton, Alberta, went on strike as of 9:00 am on September 9th.  The Palace Casino has chosen to operate the casino on a more limited basis while the strike is on – and will be reducing the number of games, etc. that they will have up and running. They currently operate 414 slot machines and games, as well as several table games, and two poker tables in their own poker room.

The casino states that it does have a plan to get them through the strike; they are going to decrease and increase the number of tables and slot machines that are available to play until the strike ends. The casino will continue offer food and beverages through the deli they have on site, but Booker’s Steakhouse will not be open for business.

The financial impact of the strike on the casino can only be estimated at this time, and experts are saying that it could end up coming out of this fairly well if they play their cards right. Without knowing how long the strike will last however, experts can only assume that the casino will fare well at the end.
