State Leaders Pushing for Legalization

Missouri state leaders are aware of the problem of illegal slot machines within their state. They are also aware of the groups that are trying to have the slot machines removed so that they can work on getting the rest of the slot machines out as well. Many state leaders would like to see all of the machines made legal, so that there is a better way of knowing which ones are illegal now. When someone comes in to play a slot machine, they will know which ones are set to rip them off, and which are valid machines.

Senator John Griesheimer (R-Washington), wants to see the slot machines regulated and licensed so that nonprofit groups such as churches can use them for fund raising. "I don't want to be known as the one who is the protector of these machines. But I'm also going to be the protector of the fraternal, religious and veterans organizations so they can have some form of gambling," he said. "This group wants to make all gambling illegal. They want to eliminate gambling in the state…If they want machines banned, there's going to be a compromise.”

The Missouri Gaming Commission is concerned as they don’t know how the state will be able to hire the manpower to regulate all of the slot machines that are currently being operated. They say the slot machines cheat the player one way or another, and that if there are now thousands more slot machines to be regulated – they just won’t be able to follow through.
