Spuds Wants License Back
The State
Lottery revoked the lottery licenses of Spud’s Convenience Store and
Sandcastle Lounge under suspicion of illegal slot machine gambling.
After revoking their license, they removed all equipment and tickets
from the establishment as well, informing them that they have a
responsibility to uphold the law and to maintain a reputation that
coincides with the vision of the state lottery system.
The company has
appealed the ruling, filing 10 days after the commission revoked the
licenses. After a raid of the Spud’s in July, police found illegal
slot machine gambling taking place, and arrested two men in
conjunction with the illegal slot machines. The Sandcastle is another
one of the owner’s businesses, and it was raided as well. Police
removed four illegal slot machines from the location.
Each of the
other locations that lost their licenses due to the illegal gambling
had them reinstated after they signed agreements to ban illegal slot
machine gambling on the premises. The Sandcastle was one of two bars
that did not sign the agreement, stating that they have not broken any
laws. The licensing commission will review their case and determine
whether or not any laws were broken and if they will reinstate the
license or not.
