Slot Machine Tanning? 

How would you like to be able to use a slot machine while tanning? You could use the slot machine to pump in the number of minutes, completely on your own. There would be no one looking over your shoulder, tan as long as you like, just as long as you keep paying the machine. 

Believe it or not, you can already do it! There are several tanning salons that are already using this technology, and people are getting concerned. The Sunbed Association feels that it is important to keep an eye on tanners, so that people don’t stay in too long. There also needs to be regulations in place for age limits of the machines as well.  

Matthew Bamber, the owner and operator of Tanning Centre in Cardiff city center was outraged at the thought of it. He said, “We have been running for 13 years and follow all the guidelines set out by the Sunbed Association and that includes medical advice for new customers. This includes information on how many minutes people should use the bed down to those with a very fair skin type that should not even attempt a tan…I totally agree with the BMA that the unmanned centers which allow people to use sun beds with a slot machine payment and no check on under 16s should be closed. We have no objection to being licensed if this gets rid of this type of centre.” His company has roughly 14,000 clients between their regular customers and the occasional drop in.
