Slot Machine Sales Slump
Sega Sammy, the
Japanese game company, has announced that they have had a loss in the
sales of their slot machines. Specifically, their net profit was down
roughly 93% in the June quarter - especially in the drop of their
“pachinko” slot machines. They dropped $6.75 million in the first
quarter - a substantial drop for the quarter.
A spokesperson
for the company said, “The first-quarter results were roughly in line
with expectations. We launched a new product in July and orders for
this machine are off to a healthy start.” The company said that they
thought one of the major reasons that they had dropped so much in
sales was because they had not introduced any new products during that
time - and that tends to hurt a slot machine and video game
manufacturer if they don’t have new items to tempt their customers
with.
The new machine,
Hokuto No Ken SE, has already had over 300,000 new orders - and the
company expects the Christmas rush will bring them right back up to
where they should be.
