The State of California is going to be making a lot of money soon; they have announced several different slot machine compacts with various state tribes to bring in more slot machines and casinos. The state is looking to bring in 5,500 additional slot machines into three casinos, 3,000 into another one, and 99 into a just built one.  

The tribes will be bringing in billions of dollars of slot machine revenue into the state with the new compacts, which makes the governor and many residents very happy. The governor had made a point of stating in his 2003 campaign for governor that the tribes needed to be paying more to the state for their slot machines. He thinks the new compacts are a boon for “"the state, the tribe and the local communities."

These deals will serve another purpose as well. With the governor coming up for re-election, by playing nice with the tribes he might get a bonus come election day. Up until now, the tribes have been mostly backing Democratic candidates as they are pro-slots and pro-Indian. Schwarzenegger might find that he will be on the receiving end of some of that support with his latest deals.
