Seneca Gaming Corp is Talking

The Seneca Gaming Corporation, the casino arm of the Seneca Nation of Indians, and Mayor Byron Brown have been having some troubles seeing eye-to-eye on a decent proposal for the city and for the tribe. Last week, the mayor decided he was done, and broke off all further discussions with the tribe. Now things are really tough between them.

Andy SanFilippo, Buffalo Comptroller, has offered to come to the table to meet with both parties and see if an agreement can be made. He knows that everyone wants the casino; it is just a matter of people getting a good amount of what they want out of the venture. "This isn't a me versus the mayor issue," SanFilippo said. "My problem with all this is what's forcing talks to break down and why? I'm not taking sides about who is right and who is wrong with this issue."

The Senecas want to build a slot machine casino in downtown, and have offered to pay the city $631,000 for that area of town. They have also agreed to many of the mayor’s other conditions, such as giving them $1.7 million to plug the new slot machine casino and the city outside of the area.  In addition to that, they will also be giving at least 500 of the new jobs to Buffalo residents. They will be building a temporary slot machine casino on their land to meet Governor Pataki’s compact deadlines.
