Sands got Stuck, and Now It’s Closing

The Sands Casino announced last week that it will be closing its doors after decades of doing business in Atlantic City. With the increase in money that all the other casinos are using to bring in more business and to class up the place, the Sands could not compete with the new environment. They haven’t added anything.

With the other casinos upgrading and bringing in more money and a higher priced clientele, the Sands had nowhere to go but down. They didn’t have the real estate to expand, and they don’t have the money to do a major renovation, which is what experts think they would need to do to change their image. They are still catering to a lower spending crowd, the one that comes in to play the slot machines and eat the buffets, all on a day trip.

Previously they had been one of the biggest money makers in Atlantic City, with the likes of Frank Sinatra packing them in – they were known as the hottest place in town. But with new casinos like the Borgata coming in, they cannot compete against the glitz and the glamour that is taking over Atlantic City. They cannot compete in a town that they have been in for so long. Other casinos are bringing in bigger and better slot machines, but the Sands hasn’t added a single one. Unfortunately, their days are now officially numbered.
