Penn National Taking Their Time

With the advent of slot machine licenses being issued in Pennsylvania right around the corner, Penn National is just waiting to get their hands on their approval.  They have been hesitant to do much in the way of getting ready for the slot machines, but have done some construction. They tore down the old grandstand in the spring, and now betters have to watch the horse racing from a nearby building. But that is really all they have done.

They are planning on building quite a bit; they are putting in a five story casino called the Hollywood Casino – to the tune of $300 million. There will be restaurants, bars, lounges, concessions, a new grandstand, etc. – as well as 3,000 slot machines. It is not planning on opening until December 2007.

They have done very little to get ready for the advent of slot machines, and unlike others in the casino industry, have not even created a temporary casino site that they could use to bring in their slot machines to start bringing in revenue. They believe that they are going about it the right way, as although they will be the last to offer slot machines, they will be the first to open a permanent casino structure.
