Online Gaming Revolution

Many are amazed at how fast the online gaming companies have grown. Years ago if you wanted to gamble, you really had to book a flight or drive to Las Vegas or Atlantic City. Then if you lived near an Indian Reservation, you could go there and gamble. And of course there was always the lottery, but if you want to pull the handle on a slot machine, your options were very limited. Much of that has changed however with the advent of online slot machines, and online computer gambling.

You can now play whenever and wherever you so please. Kids are asleep, play some slot machines on line. Waiting for your ride to work, play some slot machines on line. There is no limit to when you can play, and the companies know that. It has been estimated that somewhere around $651 million was spent on gambling each year online in 1998. Now it is estimated at somewhere closer to $20.8 billion in 2005.  You can play many of the major slot machines, as well as poker – which has also grown over the years.

Online betting is actually illegal for Americans, but it is still a booming business. In 2003 the US was responsible for 60% of all online betting. It is illegal to gamble on line if it is illegal where you are, and it is also illegal to use credit cards or electronic checks to pay those bills. The WTO recently sued the US for their laws regarding cross border gambling saying that it was a “violation of free trade standards” and won.
