Are Missouri Gambling Machines Illegal?

Video gambling machines, or slot machines, are everywhere in Missouri. They are only supposed to be in the casinos that are located along the Missouri and Mississippi rivers, but you can find them in every nook and cranny in the state. Need to do laundry? Go ahead, and play the slots while you are there. Need a beer? Sure, and while you’re at it, why don’t you play the slots?

Opponents of the slot machines say that these are violations of the law and that those that are operating these illegal gambling machines need to be arrested and the slot machines seized. They want prosecutors to go after them. However, prosecutors say that this is not an easy task. They claim that not only are they in every truck stop in the state, but they are also in churches, fraternal organizations, etc. – and many of these groups use them for fund raising.

Proponents say that the opposition is just looking for another way to make all slot machines illegal, and by getting the state to crack down on the smaller establishments, it is just paving the way to get the rest of the slot machines out of the state as well.
