IGT’s Mobile Devices

International Game Technology won the right to compete in the market for mobile gaming devices from Nevada regulators this week. In May the Gaming Control Board has licensed Cantor Gaming as the first licensed manufacturer and distributor of the mobile gaming systems – so IGT is hot on their heels. Cantor fought in the legislature for that right, and has opened the doors for other companies such as IGT to follow suit.

The company was looking to do something like this after research told them that the people who play the slot machines were looking for something different, that they were sick of just sitting in front of a slot machine and wanted something they could move around with. They can now gamble anywhere in public – pool, lobby, etc. – they just can’t gamble in private – such as in hotel rooms. They must stay where they can be supervised so that the casinos don’t run the risk of children playing the slot machines.

The machines can be set up so that you set a limit as to what you are allowed to play ahead of time, so that it will keep you from getting into trouble. Also, there are many security features built in that will keep your money from falling into the hands of someone else. There has been talk of fingerprint scanning, etc. that might keep unauthorized users from using the machines, but some think that is an invasion of privacy, so the company may have to come up with another alternative.
