Holiday Storm Could Derail Labor Day Weekend

With the impending Hurricane Ernesto hitting the south, the remnants of the storm will ultimately bring strong winds and rains to the State of NJ. There is a flash flood watch throughout the coastal areas, and is expected to remain that way through Saturday evening. This of course, will have a huge impact on the tourism industry for the weekend.

Anyone who lives in Jersey can tell you that the two main weekends each year for the beach industry are Memorial Day Weekend and Labor Day weekend. They are officially the beginning and end of the summer season. People travel from all over, just to come celebrate the end of summer with one last hurrah, whether it is at the beach or in front of a slot machine. With the storm coming, however, this will greatly reduce the number of travelers coming to the area, and hence will financially affect the state’s weekend revenue.

A recent survey found that the majority of residents were planning on staying home, and that eighty percent of those residents were not going to work. For those that are planning on traveling by car, the numbers will definitely be lower. What is tougher to figure out however, is how many of those that normally fly in will still be flying. And if they do – they are probably planning on coming for the slot machines anyway, so the casinos should be happy with that.
