Harris Goes to Jail for Slot Machine Scam

Ron Harris is either extremely smart or incredibly stupid depending on how you look at his life. He had a good job working in Las Vegas for the Gaming Control Board in the Electronic Services Division. He figured out how to cheat the slot machines while working there, and inserted a computer program into each of the machines that would enable him to bilk thousands of dollars from the machines when he played them.

He then got his friends and his family to help him steal money from the casinos. Problem was, he got greedy and kept playing. Had he stopped after taking several thousand, he might have gotten away with it. He ended up winning a $100,000 jackpot and was arrested by authorities in Atlantic City. All in all, he ended up taking about $50,000 from the slots in Vegas and AC. As if that wasn’t bad enough, after his arrest he continued receiving money from the slots in Vegas – needless to say he lost his job.

He will now spend the next seven years of his life behind bars. He pleaded with the judge to have leniency, but the judge thought he should get jail time as opposed to the suggested probation for he knew exactly what he was doing.  Officials think that this will serve as a warning to anyone planning on using their position within the industry to scam on the slot machines.
