Gambling (Part II)

There are many different types of gambling, although when most people think of gambling they think cards or slot machines. These are just the tip of the iceberg. There are:

1.  Betting on Skill: in other words you can bet on a sports game, or horseracing, dog track racing, anything that involves an outcome that can be changed. Skill games are mostly the above types of games, as it involves some sort of skill on the part of the person playing, or the horse or dog running, in order to win the game.

2.  Card Games: The list is endless for the types of gambling that can occur for cards. There is poker, blackjack, Texas Hold’em, etc. They can be played in public or in private.

3.  Dice games: These are any sort of game such as craps, where the outcome is determined by the roll of the die.

4.  Lottery: Any sort of lottery ticket you buy – quick pick, scratch off, etc. These are usually run by the state with proceeds going to help the state (many times for education.)

5.  Bingo: Bingo gets its own category for there is nothing in the world like it. Numbers are called and little chips are placed on cards. Get five in a row and you’ve got Bingo.

6.  Slot machines: These are games of chance, but can be games of skill as well. Video poker, slot machines that you have a chance at determining the outcome, these fall under skill – but for the most part slot machines are games of chance.

7.  Casino games: These are the big games played at casinos – roulette wheels, keno, that sort of game. One that you go to a casino and play on their floor.

There is also the issue of pari-mutuel betting, which is often found at Greyhound Tracks or Horseracing tracks. It is a little different as everyone pools their money together and whoever wins gets an appropriate stake as it regards to the amount they bet.
