Casinos Don’t Want Gamblers Knowing Too Much

Just as the Pennsylvania Gaming Board thought they had enough to worry about with slot machine middlemen, and getting their casinos up and running nearly two years after the slot machine law was passed, here comes Bill Kearney, to make their lives just a little harder. Bill Kearney is a recovering compulsive gambler, who is trying to stop other gamblers from making the wrong choices like he did. He has an idea that will help everyone, except of course, the casinos.

Kearney is trying to get a bill passed that would require the new slot machine and gambling casinos to issue monthly statements to gamblers. The statements would be a breakdown for how much money each gambler won and/or lost during the previous month. Needless to say, the casinos are not very happy with this idea. They want Kearney to go away. But Kearney points out that he is not looking to close down the casinos, he doesn’t want to hurt them, he just wants to help those with a gambling problem before it hurts them too much.

It would basically look like a credit card bill – and would spell out all spending for the gamblers. The worst part for the casinos is that they can’t attack Kearney for he really doesn’t stand to gain anything from this. He isn’t backed by anyone, he isn’t a part of any group trying to hurt the casinos, he really is just doing it to help his fellow gambler – which of course makes it harder for the casinos to fight him on it. Casinos across the country are worried, for if it passes in PA, then other states might find themselves having to follow suit – and that will hurt the casinos’ bottom line.

His past as a compulsive gambler, who lost everything, makes him perfect for the job. He wants to see others take note of how much they are spending and losing before it gets to be a big problem for them as well.
