Harrah’s Chester Casino Opens for Business

Harrah’s Chester Casino and Racetrack opened its inaugural season of racing on September 10th. Cars were lined up outside the business, just waiting to get a glimpse of harness racing back in action. By midway through the race, officials said the crowd was already in excess of 5,000 people, and the news reports claimed that there were somewhere around 10,000 fans there to see the race.

As this is the first time there was racing in the area in years, it was no wonder that people turned out in droves. "This is great," said one onlooker. "It’s like the old Brandywine days, the old Liberty Bell days, and it’s all right here in Chester. It’s amazing that it could come back in this area, and it’s coming back in a great way. It’s a beautiful facility. I’m looking forward to many years of great harness racing right here in the Philadelphia area."

The casino and racetrack has a 5/8ths mile track with a view of the Delaware River. The casino portion of the track will open next year with 2,700 slot machines. For those that were there to see the racing, they say the slot machines will keep them coming back. One of the drivers said the track was one of the best, and that it was great to be racing here again.
