West Virginia Gaming Industry

As Pennsylvania gets ready to issue the first of their conditional slot machine licenses this week, it marks the beginning of the influx of thousands of slot machines coming into the state. This is going to have a large impact on all of the surrounding states that offer gambling, as PA residents will no longer feel a need to travel when they have slot machines in their own backyards.

With Ohio’s voters deciding in November if they are going to bring in slot machines as well, the slot machine revenue pool is starting to look a little shallower than it did months ago. If Ohio votes yes, they will be allowing 35,000 slot machines in their state, which is a huge piece of the pie.

West Virginian’s are also concerned that Maryland’s governor has also said that slot machines are going to be a priority for them this year. Residents of the state are concerned that they already have such a head start on the slot machine and gambling industry, which with all of the other states coming in with gambling as well – their slot machine revenue will start to ebb quickly. Lawmakers think that there isn’t any reason to worry yet, others know better.
