Trinidad Lottery Handled By Rhode Island

With the recent announcement of the ban of all importation and use of slot machines in the country, many wonder how it will affect the lottery. IN the meantime, Trinidad’s national lottery just signed a deal with GTech Corp for $78 million to handle their lottery.

The firm GTech is a Rhode Island company, and they will be supplying the online gambling technology needed. Trinidad and Tobago’s National Lottery Control Board will receive 800 computer terminals and 400 handheld lottery devices for online gaming. They will also get 250 keno monitors and 400 lottery ticket terminals.

With slot machines being banned immediately, many wonder how this affects the lottery since no timetable has been given for how they will phase out that portion of the betting as well. The decision to remove the slot machines from play is a large problem as there are many casino owners who rely on the slot machines for their income. They say that if the government closes down the industry, there will be about 6,000 people out of work.
