Slot Machine Licenses Approved in PA
It has
been a long wait for the racetracks in Pennsylvania, but the
Pennsylvania Gaming Board has finally approved their slot machine
licenses. The state had voted in slot machines a couple of years ago,
but they had a lot of work to do to get ready to actually bring the
slots in before they could issue the conditional licenses.
With
this move, the Gaming Control Board approved licenses for five
racetracks – Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs in Wilkes-Barre, Penn
National Race Course near Harrisburg, Philadelphia Park in Bensalem,
The Meadows in Pittsburgh, and Harrah’s Chester Casino & Racetrack.
The sixth racetrack, Presque Isle Downs, is currently under
construction in Erie, and they will know whether or not they have been
approved for the slots license in October.
The
first slot-machine licenses in Pennsylvania have been approved by
gambling regulators. The approvals mark the biggest advance toward
making casino-style gambling a reality in the Keystone State, more
than two years after the state legalized up to 61,000 slot machines at
14 venues statewide. The conditional licenses will stand until
December, when they board will decide whether or not to issue
permanent slot machine licenses to the tracks.
There
will be some slot machine casinos open this year, others will wait
until their renovations are done before they will be up and running.
When all is said and done, there will be 61,000 slot machines in the
state, and between the racetracks and the casinos - fourteen areas you
can gamble.
