Slot Machines Are Not For Everyone

According to the latest information, it seems that quite a few locations have decided that slot machines are just not for them. There are states, such as South Carolina and Iowa who had slot machines already, and then ended up banning them. They say that they had nothing but trouble once the slot machine came to town.

Slot machines have been blamed for everything from taking jobs and income, adding to bankruptcies, increasing suicide and crime rates, but how much of it is true. If you ask most of the experts, they say all of it. If you ask the slot machine manufacturers or distributors – or even their owners, they disagree. They say that slot machines get a bad rap.

According to experts, slot machines are responsible for two out of three gambling addictions. South Dakota showed that 98% of their gambling addicts were slot machine addicts. A Canadian study showed that slot machines actually get 58-62% of their revenue from slot machine addicts. South Dakota says the proof is in the pudding – when they shut down their slot machines for three months, the number of gambling addicts that needed to be treated dropped by 98%. Iowa’s gambler hotline calls increased by 17% in the small amount of time they even allowed slot machines to operate in their state.

If you look at the figures, it seems that nothing good can come from slot machines. But then again, proponents argue that schools are funded, property taxes are cut, and states’ revenues drastically increase from the billions that the slot machines bring in.
