Slot Machine
Forum
On October 6th,
a forum regarding Proposal B is to be held. Proposal B, if approved,
would legalize slot machines at Guam Greyhound Racetrack. The forum is
meant to clear up any questions that voters may have regarding the
bringing in of slot machines, and to inform those that don’t
understand the Proposal.
The University
of Guam is holding the forum, and a large turnout is expected. The
supporters of the slot machine proposal say that it should be
approved, if for no other reason, but that it will bring in $3 million
a year. That is money that can be used toward education and health
care.
Opponents of the
slot machine initiative call themselves “No on Proposal B.” They say
that you can’t ignore the studies that have been done time and time
again that show the detriment of bringing in slot machines. They said
that the amount of money the government would be collecting from the
slot machines has to come from somewhere, and they claim that the
money would hurt small businesses that would lose customers to the
casino. They say that the risk of gambling addiction that would come
with it as well just isn’t worth bringing the slot machines to Guam.
