If it Takes Skill is it a Slot Machine?

There is one prevailing problem with slot machines and most of the states in the union. There are slot machines that you pull the handle or push the button, and you hope for the best. Then there are those that take a certain amount of skill to win – and proponents of these games say they are not slot machines – they are games of skill.

Skilled gaming machines are legal under Ohio law, but slot machines are not. So if you play a game all day long and you don’t get any better at it, chances are it is a slot machine. But if you get better over time at playing it, and increase your chances of winning it, then it isn’t a slot machine, it is a game of skill.

Many towns are now taking it upon themselves to regulate these skilled games, in Steubenville and Wintersville, they are determined to get a handle on the number of skilled slot machine type games there are. Officials in the two towns say it is gambling no matter how you look at it, and they want to ban them. But they can’t, because they aren’t actually slot machines. So they are trying to regulate where they can go, in hopes that this will help with the number of games spreading.
