Proposal B is Quite a Chunk of Change

Guam Greyhound has obviously decided that they are sparing no expense when it comes to bringing slot machines into town. They are sponsoring the Prop B initiative that if approved, will bring slot machines to the Guam Greyhound Racetrack. However, it turns out that the slot machines are costing the racetrack, and its owner John Baldwin, more than half a million dollars so far.

The new budget of Guam law states that for fiscal year 2007, the amount of money that a group is spending for a campaign or any ballot issue must be reported once it exceeds $100,000. It used to be $100, but as of October 1st the amount has changed. The campaign’s filings reflect that Guam Greyhound has well surpassed the $100,000 mark, while their opponent, the No on Proposal B team has not even come close. They are supposedly somewhere around $3,000 at this point.

Guam Greyhound has spent thousands on employees who work for the slot machine campaign, even on those that were collecting signatures to get the slot machine initiative on the ballot. If slot machines are not voted in this November, they will be out hundreds of thousands of dollars – which will be fine by the other campaign.
