Private Clubs Seek Legal Action

The Members Club Association of Trinidad and Tobago is seeking legal assistance to see what can be done about the government’s position on gambling. They say that the latest edict from the government will end up costing millions of dollars and thousands of jobs.

They are seeking legal advice for their members who will be affected by the change in the law. The government has announced that they are planning on strengthening their position within the gambling industry, and that there was going to be major changes. One of their main problems is that no one spoke to them about the change before they made it, and no one was worried about how these organizations would continue to operate under the new conditions.

Their Prime Minister announced that he was completely against all slot machine casinos and casino like establishments. He said that the rate of crime had increased and so had the financial security of families, and that the slot machines and casinos were to blame for it. He did not say that the private clubs could not continue to exist, just that they could not have payments that were made to the house. He is also banning all importation of slot machines, as well as using them, immediately.

For those that are complaining, they say that this has basically been the law the whole time, they are just enforcing it.
