Penny Slots Pay

When gamblers think of slot machines, most of them do not think about the penny slot machines. Most people think that if you play the slot machines you don’t make any money, and you figure that the casinos don’t make any money either. How can they? You also think no one is playing the penny slot machines – so why even have them in the casinos?

However, according to the South Dakota Gaming Commission, nearly $29 million was wagered in July 2005 just on penny slot machines. The state has 997 of them, and that number just keeps growing. A year later, the state is showing there are 1,337 penny slot machines in the state, and they are bringing in $40 million.

The same report shows that because the average payouts larger than they are for most slot machines, at a little over 91% - the gross revenues from the penny slot machines were $3.4 million in June of 2006. In fact, penny slot machines made up almost half of all the slot machine revenue for Deadwood.

Still wondering why casinos have them? Well, players bet $355,072,195 in penny slot machines just in the 2005-06 fiscal year – go figure.
