Pennsylvania’s First Slot Machine Arrives

The Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority was more than just a little excited to unveil Pennsylvania’s first slot machine. The first slot machine casino will be open to the public on November 14th at 10:00 am, and the arrival of the state’s first slot machines was a spectacle to behold.

Robert Soper, CEO of Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs said that he believed that “the slot machine [was] a real tangible indication of the potential economic benefits” and that “casinos are happening. It’s for real.”

It seems that he is not alone for there was a pretty good turnout to see the state’s first slot machine. Although, they don’t seem to be quite near the completion phase of their casino yet, and some say that a mid-November opening might be pushing it some. When you look inside the casino, none of the slot machines are even in place yet, and only 125 slot machines have even come in. There are to be a total of 1,100 slot machines in the casino, and they still need to be installed and tested before the casino can open.

Construction crews are busy at work, for the $70 million in upgrades have not been completed yet. The press conference that Mr. Soper held on Monday was outside under the slot machine casino’s entrance canopy – not inside. Mr. Soper said that it was due to the fact that some of the work being done inside was that of a “sensitive” nature, and thus they could not open their doors yet.
