Parent Campaigns Against Slot Machines

Chris Parent is opposed to bringing slot machines into the Lucky Dollar Bingo Palace and he is organized enough to do something about it. He has gotten a petition together, and is trying to get enough signatures to get the expansion vetoed. He said he has seen first hand the kind of people who play the slot machines, and this is not something they want in their town.

Parent used to work at the bingo facility, and when he first started he had no money at all. While waiting for his first check to come in he had to go to the food bank to get his meals. As he was standing on line, he saw people there who would come to the bingo hall. He thought to himself that if they can’t afford food, what are they doing at the Bingo Hall? A simple question really, but the crux of the matter is that there are millions of people in this country doing the exact same thing. They spend their money on gambling and slot machines and then have no money left for the necessities in their lives.

Parent says that he already has over 300 signatures, and is getting a group together to go to the public hearing to give the petition to the Terrace City Council. He says that if they can get enough support, hopefully the Bingo Palace will not be allowed to add slot machines.

He said he never wants to see people using “their last dime” at the slot machine waiting on line just to eat.
