Slot Opponents Winning So Far

According to a recent survey, those that oppose slot machines have a lead over those that want to bring them in. The issue of legalizing slot machines at the Guam Greyhound Racetrack has been a hotbed for months now, and with this recent poll it shows that their opponents are winning right now.

Of the 450 people that responded to the survey, 50% of them said they would vote against Proposal B. Proposal B is the proposal that would allow slot machine gambling at the racetrack.  Those that would vote for legalizing the slot machines came in at 43.6%, and 5.6% said they were undecided. Less than one percent said they just won’t vote. The question was “Would you vote for, or vote against, the Prop B initiative to legalize slot machine gambling at the Guam Greyhound racetrack?"

Guam polling firm by the name of Market Research and Development conducted the survey, and was commissioned by the Pacific Daily News. The campaign continues to stress the number of jobs that would be brought in, as well as the amount of slot machine revenue that would go to the government. But many that are opposed to legalizing slot machines say a large part of it has to do with the environment that they are afraid the slot machines will bring in to Guam. They say that there are a lot of children in this community, and there will be too many problems brought in that they will be exposed to. They cite what happened when poker machines were brought in, and how many of their neglected youth ended up addicted to them.
