No Casino for Gettysburg

The York Dispatch did a poll to see how people felt about bringing slot machines and gambling, as well as casinos to the area near Gettysburg. They were inundated with answers.

There were 1,369 people who responded to the question, “Do you favor the establishment of a slot machine casino near Gettysburg?” Of those that answered, 955 of them did not approve of the casino. Those that said they did want it was 414 of their votes - basically 69.8% for and 30.2% against.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board is supposed to rule on the application in December, and historic preservation and Civil War groups are hoping they vote no. They say it is historical grounds, and it would be ridiculous to put a slot machine parlor that close to the sacred area. The Chamber of Commerce of Gettysburg is all for it, for they are aware that if a slot machine parlor comes to town, more money comes as well.
