Loontjer Fighting for the Good Life

For eleven years, Pat Loontjer of Gambling with the Good Life has been battlig slot machines and gambling. This year is no different, with a proposal on the books to legalize slot machines under a different name. There is a ballot proposal called Initiative Measure 421, and it would legalize video keno stations wherever a licensed keno operator is located.

Loontjer says that it is ridiculous that it even got on the books under that wording as “player stations” is just a fancy way of saying “slot machines.” If approved, it would allow unlimited slot machines at more than 600 keno locations in Nebraska. It does limit the slot machines to keno locations, but with that many locations, the slot machines will soon be throughout Nebraska.

It also eliminates the five minute delay between games, which is an important tool when battling addiction. This delay actually gives the player a moment to think about what they are doing. It will now be possible to play as fast as every two seconds, which means slot machine players are hitting it over and over without thinking about the ramifications of what they are betting. There is no time to process, and it will end up feeling much like they aren’t spending anything at all, when really they could be losing a bundle.
