Grand Waldo Casino
Opens
The Grand Waldo
Casino and Hotel opened their doors Friday in Macau. This makes them
the second casino to open in September. Many think this is just a sign
of things to come, and will all of the activity in
Macau, some think that
Macau might become
the next Las Vegas – and surpassing the strip as the world’s biggest
gambling
Mecca.
The casino cost
$410 million to build, and has 334 slot machines, as well as tables,
restaurants, a nightclub, and spa. The new slot machine and gambling
casino is owned by Galaxy Entertainment Group, Ltd. and is controlled
by Lui Che-woo, a Hong Kong construction tycoon. Francis Lui, vice
president of Galaxy Entertainment Group, said, "'06 is a very
rewarding year for Galaxy Group. So far this year we have opened three
casinos.
With the opening of
Grand Waldo, we expect we should be able to comfortably maintain the
same market share and further increase it."
The company opened
two smaller casinos earlier this year in Macau, a small area that
consists of a peninsula and two islands off the coast of China. The
area is the only part of China that allows slot machine gambling, and
the area is quickly expanding. The company is planning on opening
another hotel and casino in October, and is building the Galaxy Mega
resort which should open in 2008.
