Economy Affects Votes

It is no secret that there are the same issues year after year that affect the way voters act at the polls. If they think things are going well, they will reflect that by keeping people in office. If they think that things aren’t going well, they will be looking to replace whoever is in there, no matter how hard they have tried to keep things going.

There are the same issues from war and terrorism to health care and especially the economy. People want to think that their elected officials are doing everything in their power to make their lives better. One good example is taxes. Whether it is state tax, property tax, school tax, it doesn’t matter; people don’t want to pay a lot for taxes. Some states have decided to try and alleviate taxes by bringing in slot machines. They can show how they will be able to decrease the amount of money people are paying by using slot machine revenue to make up the difference that the state needs to still make their bills without overtaxing their voters.

Pennsylvania is a good one for this. The people of the state have been inundated with taxes. Governor Ed Rendell has brought in slot machines and has shown how they are going to be a significant change for the state. Some say that the amount the slot machines are bringing in is not enough to make a difference in their bills – others say no matter how much comes in it is more than they have now. Slot machine revenue can end up helping them, and they will take what they can get.
