Delaware’s Legal Slot Machines

Delaware wants to be trusted. When they said they wanted to bring in video lottery slot machines, they said it was a matter of trust. However, Delaware’s voters are getting suspicious of that trust. When examining the Delaware Constitution, it says in Article 2, Section 17, which slot machines are illegal, but state lottery is not. Considering the fact that there are many who feel the lottery machines are really just slot machines. If they are, then the state has been breaking the law.

The government says they are not slot machines, but Delaware Lottery Director Wayne Lemons said at a symposium that “The legislators defined a video lottery broad enough to take in any type of game that was known to be on the market at that time or that was likely to be on the market in the future. So most of them are slot machines, but they're all included in the definition of video lottery and in Delaware we do not question the wisdom of our legislators."

He also called them “slot machines – just like the ones in Atlantic City,” on a radio talk show. What gives?

It seems to be that when it is convenient for the state, slot machines are not allowed. But when the state wants more money, slot machines, etc., video gaming machines are allowed. Many voters want clarification, and their legislatures had better come up with it, or they will find themselves out of a job, slot machines or not.
