Clinton County Gaming Grants
Legalized
gambling may come under fire for a lot of things, but if you ask
Clinton County if it is a detriment to them, chances are you are going
to have to look long and hard to find someone who doesn’t think that
the slot machines are doing a whole lot of good for the area.
Over forty
community groups throughout the county are benefiting from that slot
machine revenue, and they have the Mississippi Belle II/Wild Rose
Casino to thank for it. The members of the Clinton County Community
Development Association were pretty happy to, as they were able to
provide each non-profit agency that applied for a gaming grant at
least $1,000 – something they have never been able to do before.
They may not
have been able to give everything they asked for, but everyone got
something. Out of a little more than $641,000 requested, $435,000+ was
paid out. Some applicants were rejected because of errors on their
applications, but they can reapply next fall – and the commission is
willing to help those with problems this year get them sorted out for
next years slot machine revenue.
Payouts were:
Clinton
School
District
Education Foundation: $42,456
Zion
Child Care Preschool: $50,000
Clinton
Kiwanis Club: $40,000
Clinton
County
Historical Society: $1,940
Gateway Area
Chapter of the American Red Cross: $1,846

Each group got
at least something toward what they had asked for, with the Red Cross,
Felix Adler, and the Historical Society getting fully funded.
