Camden Pawn Shop Closed

Police raided the back room of the Camden Pawn Shop on Thursday and discovered an illegal video slot machine parlor. The Camden police announced that they had arrested the owners Martin J. Belson of Milford, and Robert Donze, III of Dover, with charges of possession of gambling devices, keeping gambling devices, and providing a premise for gambling devices. Both men are currently out on jail awaiting trial.

Police said they had obtained a search warrant after undercover officers had gone in repeatedly to play the illegal slot machines and the owners had paid them cash upon winning. They said they spent six months investigating and gathering evidence to be used against the two men, and the investigation had included more than just the local and Dover police departments. They had also been assisted by the US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Upon raiding the premises, the police seized eight slot machines as well as a large amount of cash. Each machine confiscated led to a criminal charge against each man. Both men were released with unsecured bail – Belson paid $100 and Donze paid $500.
