Voters Waiting for Slot Machine Results
The residents of
Guam are eagerly anticipating the results of the voting yesterday on
whether or not Prop B, the initiative to legalize slot machines at
Guam Greyhound, was passed or not. An order released by the Supreme
Court of Guam said that the results would be released to the public.
Sorenson Television Systems fought an order that tried to keep the
results of the slot machine measure to a limited few and won.
Since there is
still a lawsuit pending from the Lina’la Sin Casino against the
election commission noting that there were discrepancies and failures
by the commission to follow the rules and regulations when the slot
machine proposal was trying to get on the ballot, the Judge said he
will rule after the elections as to whether the votes will count or
not.
In the order
from the court, the justices states that the decision “infringed upon
the Election Commission’s duty to tabulate votes and upon tabulation,
make such results available to the public.”
In either case,
the people of Guam are glad to know that they will get to see the
exact results of the slot machine measure, as they feel it is
important to see how much of the island was for or against.
