US Ban on Internet Gaming Affects Europe

With the United States' new laws surrounding internet gambling, making it illegal - online slot machine and poker companies are left to figure out how to recover. Other countries such as the UK, Italy and Belgium have opted to regulate online slots playing more closely as opposed to banning it all together.

Party Gaming PLC, is the world’s largest online poker company, and they lost 75% of their slot machine and online revenue when it had to shut down their US sites. CEO Mitch Garber is confident that they will bounce back however. He said, “Chaos breeds opportunity and we will seize that opportunity.”

He believes that with their international expansion plan that they have, Europe will end up favoring them well. The EU is pushing to allow them to open their markets over there, and on October 12th they told their members, such as France and Australia, to “stop discriminating against international bookmakers and casinos.”

Some think the changes will give the United States’ gamblers ways to evade the bans at home. It has been speculated that America’s gamblers will end up in the hands of the Europeans in their markets instead. Each of the EU countries has different plans for adding more internet slot machines and gaming, which will make it hard for US customers to resist.
