Tic Tac Slot Machines

The operators of the Tic Tac Fruit machines just found out that no matter what you call them, they are still slot machines. Ohio Attorney General Jim Petro issued a statement saying that any device programmed to control a payout and guarantee the operator a minimum rate of return is not a skill based amusement machine – it is a slot machine. They are traditionally called “governors” and they are slot machines even though the people who own them are trying to say that they are not.

"We hope this ends the uncertainty and encourages sheriffs and prosecutors to follow the [slot machine] law," Petro said. "A court can disagree, but usually [opinions] are given significant weight."

A Franklin County Pleas Court is hearing an appeal of the Ohio Liquor Commission ruling that said that the liquor permit holder was in fact operating a slot machine. There is a chance that the pleas court will rule that they are not slot machines, but it is not likely. It seems that the machines are a clear violation of the Ohio law that says slot machines are illegal, so it should be an open and shut case.

If voters legalize slot machines at the polls, than the whole case will in all likelihood be thrown out, as the slot machines will now be legal for them to own and operate.
