Swann Demands Rendell Apologize

Lynn Swann’s campaign thinks that Governor Rendell should apologize for the comments he made concerning senior citizens. Leonardo Alcivar, the campaign spokesperson for Swann, said, “Straight talk is one thing, but diminishing the value and the lives of our senior citizens is offensive."

The governor was being interviewed by the New Era in Lancaster and was defending his role in legalizing slot machines in Pennsylvania. He was referring to the seniors who take the busses down to Atlantic City’s casinos for day trips from Philadelphia, and said, “These are people who lead very gray lives. They don't see their sons and daughters very much. They don't have much social interaction. There are not a whole lot of good things that happen in their month. But if you put them on the bus, they're excited. They're happy. They have fun. They see bright lights. They hear music. They pull that slot machine and with each pull they think they have a chance to win. ... It's unbelievable what brightness and cheer it brings to older Pennsylvanians."

The Governor defending his comments saying that he only meant that seniors play the slot machines for entertainment, and said he would not apologize for the comments.
