Slot Machines Trashed

Parts of the initial slot machines that have been seized over the past two years in Penang were trashed and tossed into the dump yesterday. However, only parts of the slot machines were there. The outer frames, wires and circuit boards were there, but the internal components were missing.

Upon further inspection is showed that their internal components had been removed from the slot machines. The slot machines were loaded onto lorries at the George Town District Police Station, who said that they had removed the internal components for safety reasons. It took roughly 20 Municipal Council workers to remove the 140 slot machines for disposal. They took away 75 in the morning and the remaining 65 in the afternoon.

A bulldozer was then used to crush the slot machines, and a council worker said that they just destroy whatever the police give them – it is not up to them to decide what that should be. The George Town OCPD Asst Comm Azam Abd Hamid said, “We stored the components and wooden frames separately for safety reasons. When it is time to destroy the exhibits, we destroy the frames and components together.”

He also said that they needed to get rid of the slot machines as they needed the space to store slot machines that would be seized in the future. Some establishments had closed down he said to try and avoid prosecution, however, Hamid said he had no doubt that they would find all of them eventually.
