Slot Machines Well Protected
On opening day a the new Gulfstream
Park Racing & Casino in Hallandale Beach, FL, there was more than just
slot machine players waiting to get their hands on the one-armed
bandits; there were also policemen waiting to see if they would catch
any bandits of their own.
Michael Mann is the assistant
special agent in charge of the slot machine casino – he works for the
Florida Department of Law Enforcement. He has traveled to New Jersey
and spoken with law enforcement officers across the country to ensure
that he and his team knew what they were getting into when choosing to
protect the slot machines. They now have a pretty good idea of what to
look for, and how to apprehend someone trying to cheat the slot
machines.
In preparation for protecting the casino’s slot machines, Mann said,
''My guys are more than ready. We've really had the benefit of talking
to other jurisdictions and training with other jurisdictions on how
this all works.''
Other slot machine casinos have
given them a lot of help in knowing what to look for, and they have
been warned that many slot machine cheats will come in the first
couple of days. They will scope out the casino, they will look at the
kinds of slot machines being offered, then they will go home and
figure out how to come back and trick the slot machines into giving
them the casino’s money.
Mann said. ''A lot of it is new to
us, but a lot of law enforcement, no matter what venue you take, the
crimes are the same. We know how to investigate crime, period. We're
here to make sure the integrity of the [slot machine] is intact.''
