Slot Machines More About Extras

Each year at the Global Gaming Expo hosted at the Las Vegas Convention Center, you get a glimpse of what the next year’s slot machines are going to look like. Most years you get celebrities there plugging the slot machine that is named after them, but not this year. This year it was made very obvious that the pop culture type slot machines of the past are going away and more reserved slot machines are the wave of the future.

Players want more for their buck than just to look at someone they can see on the TV any day of the week. It used to be that you had to travel pretty much to Las Vegas or Atlantic City to play the slot machines, and now that they are across the country, people can afford to be a little pickier about what they want to spend their money on. The generic slot machines make more money now than the ones that have someone’s face plastered across it. They might bring in more slot machine revenue, but it isn’t enough to justify the cost of the machine due to the theme.

International Game Technology, undeniably the world’s largest slot machine maker, showed off a few licensed themes – with two of them simply being new versions of “Indiana Jones” and “Star Wars.” They have some that they know will make money, such as “Wheel of Fortune” which is the country’s most popular and profitable licensed slot machine.

There are lots of slot machines to choose from, but the companies seem to have a better grasp of what it is players want. They are sticking with some tried and true ones, as well as adding lots of bonuses and jackpots that were not offered before.
