Slot Machines Outweigh Education
One of the biggest issues this year
in the Florida elections is the idea that whoever becomes the new
governor of Florida will likely bring in slot machines. This is due
mostly to the fact that Governor Bush was incredibly anti-slot
machine, and many Floridians would like to see slot machines brought
in across the state. However, they would also like to see changes in
education, so where is that in this election?
Charlie Crist is in favor of
keeping the FCAT exam, which many know is just a huge problem for the
state’s schools. Many schools end up teaching their students nothing
but what is on the FCAT just so they don’t get a failing grade at
their school. Jim Davis has said that he thinks there needs to be
change in the way we hold the schools accountable, and that the FCAT
is not the way to do it. What is most important, no matter what, is
that the schools need more money and slot machines will do that for
them. Many think that if the slot machines are brought in and
legalized, much of the slot machines’ revenue can go toward helping
the school system.
Broward County has already voted to
bring in slot machines, although Miami-Dade, when also asked to vote
yes for slot machines, decided to vote no. Those that are in support
of legalizing slot machines in Florida say that the amount of revenue
that could come from the slot machines will make a huge difference in
the education system.
