Seminoles Want Slot Machines

It is common knowledge that according to the federal government, Indian tribes have the right to have slot machines at their reservation slot machine casinos. However, Governor Jeb Bush has dug his heels in and will not sign a compact with the Seminole Indians to bring in more slot machines. The tribe currently has Bingo style slot machines, and players can play against each other, but they want Class III Vegas Style slot machines.

Because Broward County voted to approve slot machines, the Seminoles have the right under federal law to have the same slot machines as are offered anywhere else in the state. If Florida doesn’t get its act together however, it could lose a lot of slot machine revenue as they are now going to the federal government to plead their case. The tribe is supposed to sign a slot machine compact with the state that they are located in, but if the state will not cooperate, then they have the right to go to the Department of the Interior and have them approve their slot machines.

It is in the best interest of the state to come to an agreement over the slot machines, for if they don’t and the federal government steps in, the state of Florida will not receive any of the slot machine and gaming revenue. The government would make them take the slot machines either way, so the Seminole’s win no matter what. They get their slot machines, either from Florida or from the feds. However, if Florida doesn’t agree to the slot machine terms, they get nothing except slot machines that they won’t see a dime from.
