Regulation of Slot Machines Doesn't
Work
Colorado is in
trouble for not having enough slot machine regulators in their state,
which means illegal or broken slot machines are being played in the
state’s casinos, but no one knows. The state came under fire for
regulating too much, the casinos said that they were taking too long
to inspect the slot machines, so the state turned it back on the
casinos and have them doing self regulation of their slot machines.
However, it is
obviously not working. Century City Casino in Century City is a
classic example of that. They didn’t cross check their new slot
machines, and put slot machines on the floor that had not been
approved for use in Colorado. They have five slot machines that
allowed wagers of higher than the state’s mandated limit.
They are not
alone. There are casinos allowing slot machines to sit on their floors
and be played that have already been found to have various problems.
The state told them to get rid of them, but the slot machines are
still operating. The casinos have anywhere between 30 and 180 days to
remove the defective slot machines, but they aren’t doing it, and no
one is checking to see if they have. One slot machine was recently
found to wipe itself out. A person could be playing it, and it just
goes blank.
With the
majority of wagers coming through the slot machines, the government
needs to do something to protect their customers. They have no problem
taking the slot machine revenue that gamblers send their way, now they
have to actually earn it.
