No More Smoking for Slot Machine Players?

Nevada residents are trying to decide whether to ban smoking in slot machine casinos, or to leave well enough alone. The problem seems in part to stem from out of state customers who come in to play the slot machines and are bothered by the smoke. There are two measures on the block, one will ban smoking in certain areas of the slot machine casinos, and the other would not affect the slot machine casinos at all. Voters also have the option of not supporting either measure.

Some think that there should be some sort of happy medium between what is being offered and what is actually going on in the state. The ban on smoking in slot machine casinos will definitely help, but for a state that has one of the highest incidents of lung cancer mortality in the US, something needs to be done. Those that work at the slot machines say that although it is convenient to be able to smoke inside, they would actually prefer to be able to work in a smoke free environment – something that the slot machine casinos just don’t offer.

Many said that it doesn’t really have anything to do with the slot machine casinos, and that they are simply a byproduct of legislation. They are concerned with the fact that you can smoke in daycare centers and on school busses, and other places that house their children – not the slot machine casinos. They simply want to find a place that their children will not be affected by second hand smoke, and since children shouldn’t be in the slot machine casinos in the first place, they don’t care whether they ban it there or not.
