No Slot Machines for Guam

After all of their hard work and money, the ballot initiative to legalize slot machines at Guam Greyhound was defeated at the polls. Many felt that there was a strong chance that slot machines would be legalized, and that it would greatly help Guam. However, the opposition to the slot machines fought long and hard to keep them out and they were victorious.

The Committee to Revitalize Tourism, the group trying to get the slot machines legalized, said they had fought what they felt was an uphill battle, and they were happy for all they had gotten accomplished. Jon Anderson, spokesman for the committee, said that they were happy that it went to the public to decide, and that they felt the legalization of the slot machines had made great strides in doing so.

He also said that now that the voters have decided not to legalize slot machines, which they will continue to try and expand however they can. He said, “Clearly Guam Greyhound is an ongoing business and will continue to operate and we do have some plans for improvement and upgrade here at Guam Greyhound. But we're going to go forward regardless of the outcome of Proposal 'B'. Our plans to revitalize Guam Greyhound, and Guam tourism, in turn would have moved along a lot faster had the proposal passed."
