More Slot Machines for Mohegan Sun

The Mohegan Sun is already one of the world’s largest slot machine and gambling casinos, but it is not enough. They announced Thursday that they are planning on an estimated $740 million expansion of the property, which will add poker and a new House of Blues.

The Tribe is hoping that the expansion of the slot machine casino will bring in customers that they are not currently targeting – such as people in their early 20’s and Asians. "We're drawing some new customers but serving our existing customer base better," said Chief Operating Officer Jeffrey Hartmann. "The number one entertainment venue in the Northeast resides here in Uncasville, Conn."

The Mohegan Sun is currently celebrating its 10th anniversary, and brings in $1.5 billion annually in slot machine and gambling revenue. They have 10,000 employees, and expect to add at least another 2,000 over the next five years. The expansion will be called “Project Horizon” and is scheduled to open its hotel in 2010 and the House of Blues in 2009. They will also be adding a new slot machine casino which will bring in an additional 964 slot machines. The tribe currently has 6,000 slot machines operating.

They are also planning on building a poker room, as the one they had they closed to make room for more slot machines. However, with its increased popularity they will be adding a poker room onto the existing slot machine and gambling casino.
